Chlorine Chronicles E-news 06/06/04 Welcome to the Birdstone (well, it was going to be the Smarty Jones, but we know how that turned out) edition of the Chlorine Chronicle, the sometimes irregular electronic newsletter of the Metropolitan LMSC. Post Positions for Today's Race: 1. Local Swimmers Take Indy by Storm And they're off .... LOCAL SWIMMERS TAKE INDY BY STORM 72 swimmers from our LMSC (Badger - 6, Metro - 17, Red Tide - 44, South Fork - 1 and Westchester - 4) competed in the USMS Short Course National Championships last April. There were many, many fast swims and even one new national record for our local heroes. Individual results can be found at http://www.usms.org. Next stop, Savannah! COACHES CLINIC WRAP-UP The LMSC Coaches Clinic which was held in May was a big success. There were 21 coaches from five different teams there. The ASCA presentation was much better geared to Masters than the one we did two years ago. Thanks to the folks at TNYA and all others who worked to set this up. HALL OF FAME INDUCTION DINNER The 2004 Metropolitan Swimming Hall of Fame Induction/Awards Dinner was held on Tuesday evening, May 25 at the Nassau County Aquatic Center. Numerous dignitaries and representatives from USA-Swimming, United States Masters Swimming, college swimming, coaches, athletes, friends and relatives were on hand to honor those being inducted and recognized. Metropolitan LMSC masters swimmers in attendance were Steve Newman, Lisa Baumann, Paul Fortoul, Addi Quinn, Drury Gallagher (2002 HOF inductee), Jane Katz (2003 HOF inductee) and Alan Chodosh, along with several others from neighboring LMSCs (CONN & ADMS). After a fun cocktail hour out on the balcony during which many people who hadn't seen each other in a long time got re-acquainted, everyone moved indoors for a fabulous catered buffet dinner and the induction ceremony. MC Lenny Galluzzi (2001 HOF inductee) and other presenters recognized outstanding athletes, high point scoring teams, and student-athletes. This year's HOF inductees were Alecia Humphrey, former standout swimmer from Marist Swim Club & the University of Arizona and a member of several USA international teams, and Dick Krempecki, former head men's and women's swim coach at St. John's University. This was a fabulous evening that we hope more Masters swimmers attend in the future! TOP TEN RECORDER NEEDED The LMSC is looking for a new Top Ten Recorder. This position submits our meet results to USMS for inclusion in the National Top Ten rankings. Computer literacy is required. If interested, please contact Stan Kroder at kroder1@optonline.net.
