USMS Short-Course National Championships Update: "Aloha" means "New Yorkers Kick Butt" 15 Metropolitan LMSC swimmers went to Hawaii for fun, sun and fast times. A summary of the Metro results can be found below, and also on the website (http://www.metroswim.org) and the full results at http://www.usms.org. Many thanks to Mike Ritter for compiling the Metro results and for taking splits, leading the cheers, and offering lots of moral support. A great time was had by all, and some fast swims too. Metro now boasts 4 National Champions: Maria Drueckhammer (5 events), Lida Gaschke (3 events), Loys Green (1 event) & Walter Lynch (3 events). Metro All-Stars Combined Team came in 4th place (small division) out of 135 Teams. The women came in 5th place (medium division) out of 8 teams. The men - all 3 of them - were outnumbered, but thanks to Walter's 3 titles, came in 38th out of 107 teams in the small division. The highlight of the trip (at least for your humble newsletter creator) was the night after the meet ended. We started with cocktails, hosted by Marcia Hill, at a swank hotel on Waikiki, followed by a sunset dinner in the shadow of Diamond Head (tastefully arranged by Richard Benson). A special thanks to the Metro LMSC Board for underwriting the cost of the dinner. All USMS registered swimmers from the Metropolitan area, regardless of team affiliation, are invited and welcome to participate. Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes early; park in lot across the highway and walk underneath to reach Field #6; rendezvous at main lifeguard stand. Wetsuits are recommended for June swim date. Bring family and friends and make a day of it. Lisa Baumann will be available to baby sit any of your children while you swim. All speeds and ability levels are welcome.
